The reason why this young male came to be rescued is unclear. His weight suggests that he should still be with his mother and her milk.

We can only guess why they where separated. It could be that a male chased the Joey away as its breeding season, the mother may have given birth to a pinky joey and has forced Dust away. The mother may have died. The list is endless.

He has spent all his life with his mum and has had no real human contact until now. He’s very shy and scared. Although we want keep contact to a minimum, we have to create a relationship with him so he’s comfortable with receiving formula and also because joeys and their mother’s keep in physical contact, Dust still needs some comfort to replace his mom.

It’s early days and it will be a slow process. Thankfully, he’s taking his formula to help him finish his development.
