RAAF Base Williamtown Koala Food Tree Plantation

RAAF personnel helping at koala leaf plantation

After 18 months of consultation with the RAAF we have been able to secure 8 hectares of RAAF land for our new koala feed plantation between the Williamtown airport and the beach.

On 9 July, 90 RAAF personnel helped to plant nearly 2,000 Eucalyptus Robusta trees in only 4 hours. Thankfully the trees look like they have survived the two east coast lows that flooded the area. Luckily Robusta, commonly known as Swamp Mahogany, don’t mind wet feet.

Future working bees will be  planned with the RAAF, please go to our volunteer page if you’d like to be involved.

Group Captain Peter Cluff is a great supporter of Port Stephens Koalas and wants to achieve planting approximately 5000 trees; that’s one tree for every employee on the RAAF base.
