Koala Name: RiverS
Rescued: Multiple times
Released: Last released in December 2022
Reason RiverS came into care: RiverS has been at the Hospital on multiple occasions initially for getting herself into a little trouble in the carpark of the local Rivers store – which is how she got her name. The most recent time RiverS came into care at Port Stephens Koala Hospital was because she was found wandering in the stairwell of a unit complex on a very hot day.
Treatment provided: On the first occasion, following a health check, RiverS was released at one of our local release sites. On the second occasion, the member of the public was not sure how long she had been trapped in the building’s stairwell, so she brought her to the Hospital to be given another health check. This time the Hospital team discovered she had urogenital chlamydia and was given a course of antibiotics. Once RiverS was cleared, she was released in a local release site that is great for koalas.
